Red Cross Society’s Tamil Nadu Branch was formed in 1920. Blood banking activities were started in the year 1972. Today it has 29 district branches and 5 sub branches distributed throughout the state.

Services

• Ensures proper screening of blood before issue to hospitals

• tains list of regular donors, referral for use in Government hospital emergencies

• Mobile Blood Bank with all facilities to collect blood from voluntary donors in outreach camps in and around Chennai Metropolis available

• Prepares components such as Plasma, Platelets and Packed cells

• Caters to the needs of patients in Government and pivate hospitals.

• 10% of monthly collection is given free of cost to Government Hospitals

• Functions round the clock (No holidays).

• Conducts regular motivational campaigns to spread public awareness about voluntary blood donation
