Profile

The Voluntary Health Services is a non-profit charitable organisation, registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act. This is a medical centre catering to the needs of patients in the poor and middle income groups of the community without any discrimination of caste, creed or colour. It is being run on a "No Loss, No Profit" basis. More than 70% of the patients are treated free of cost. Often medicines and diet are also offered free.

The Rotary International has helped in the expansion of the Dr.K.S.Rangnathan Memorial Blood-Bank. Equipment worth Rs.1 crore has been provided by them. Hightech blood transfusion equipment and cell separators have been procured by the Rotary club of Chennai - Central. As an acknowledgement, the blood bank has been named as Rotary Central - TTK Blood Bank.

The Blood-Bank is licensed by the Drug Controller. All blood samples are screened for HIV, Hepatitis, VDRL for AIDS, Jaundice and SSTD respectively, before they are transfused.

Services

The following are some of the services provided by the Rotary Central – TTK – VHS Blood Bank.

• Conducts frequent blood donation camps to encourage voluntary blood donation.

• Supplies blood free of cost to poor patients at VHS.

• Supplies blood free of cost to poor patients in specified government hospitals.

• Takes comprehensive care of haemophilic patients. Works with Haemophilic Society - Madras Chapter and gives blood components free.
