TTK Hospital of TT.Ranganathan Clinical Research Foundation is a pioneer, voluntary, non-profit organisation dedicated to the treatment and rehabilitation of those addicted to the alcohol and other drugs.

The hospital offers a comprehensive in-patient treatment programme. It includes the involvement of the family of the addict also. Treatment utilises a multi-disciplinary approach with the help of a psychiatrist, physicians, psychologists, counsellors and social workers. The treatment programme includes:

• Detoxification
• Intensive psychological therapy
• Follow-up

Chronic health problems associated with addiction and withdrawal symptoms due to sudden stoppage of drug usage are dealt with during detoxification. Detoxification is for a period of 7 to 10 days.

After detoxification, the patient undergoes an intensive 3-week in-patient therapeutic programme. It comprises individual counselling, lectures, groups and family therapy, and relaxation techniques. Individual care and attention is given to each patient during therapy.

Follow – up is an important aspect of treatment at the hospital. It includes medical check up, counselling sessions and relapse prevention programme. This is maintained for a period of five years.

The hospital has an after–care centre which provides long-term support on an in–patient basis to drug addicts. It can accommodate 20 patients. The After Care Therapy is for a period of 3-4 months.

The Centre also holds camps and has outreach programmes in its attempts to battle against substance abuse.
