Pharmacokinetics

It is a non-halogenated glucocorticoid with a high topical: systemic activity ratio. It is reported to be more effective than beclomethasone. A small fraction is absorbed that is rapidly metabolised in the body.

Indications

It is used to treat bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis. It exerts local anti-inflammatory action and immunosupressive action on the nasal mucosa and bronchial tree.

Routes of Administration and Dosage

For asthma: 200-800 micrograms/day by inhalation. For allergic rhinitis: 200-400 micrograms/day by intranasal spray.

Contra Indications

It is contraindicated in hypersensitivity to the drug.

Precautions

Precautions must be taken in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, fungal and viral infections of airway, pregnancy and breast-feeding.
